Basics of Fishing
Maybe you aren’t ready to take the plunge and sign up for 1 one 1 coaching. That is ok. Here I will share the basics of fishing through blog posts that you can use to guide yourself through self-teaching. You can always hit me up for coaching if it gets overwhelming.
There is no better way to start fishing, especially for a young person, than a pond, with a bobber and and worm. If you buy one of the rods shown on the next blog entry, you will already have your reel spooled with line, all you will need to do is tie on a hook, attach a bobber and a weight and put your worm on the hook. You can buy live worms at bait shops, or if you don’t have one of those handy, most Walmarts have them in their sporting goods section. Academy will also carry them.
Set your bobber and a foot and a half above your hook, put a small split shot weight/sinker about halfway between the bobber and the hook and toss the line in the water. If there are bluegill near where you threw it, your bobber should start to move fairly quickly. Once it goes all the way under, give the rod a slight jerk back (it doesn’t take much for these fish) and start reeling!
